According to a study by the British Psychological Society, during a working day, we sit for an average of 5.30 hours, which is problematic because sitting too long has consequences for our health. However, does this mean that you have to work standing up?
Working seated yes but not too long
Sitting down is not a problem in itself, as long as you do not stay in this position for too long because, after 6 hours sitting down, you increase the risk of obesity, developing diabetes or having cardiovascular problems.
Working upright positive effects but not miraculous
Working standing up will have a positive effect on your health as it will reduce the risk of obesity, diabetes or cardiovascular problems. However, the effect is not incredible from an energy expenditure point of view, since according to the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, working upright would make you lose about 72 Kcal per day (for an 8-hour day). However, working standing up would push you to move more, which is very good! The more you move, the more you work, which is all the more true in a flex-office space such as a COworking space
. This is why we have opted in our case for various workstations as well as meeting rooms offering the possibility of stand-up meetings
. What do you think of working standing up?
